About SmoothAtlanta.com

SmoothAtlanta.com is Atlanta's newest Internet jazz radio station. Atlanta is rich in the various musical genres in Atlanta.  Over the last few years, Atlanta’s musical reputation stems from the vast Hip-Hop musicians who call Atlanta their home.  But Hip-Hop is not the only genre of music that represents Atlanta.  Jazz music in Atlanta, because of Atlanta’s rich artistic culture, has a very strong presence and always has through the course of jazz music’s existence.  Because of that presence and culture, Atlanta is home to many musically gifted local jazz artists such as Hudson on Bass, Joey Sommerville, William Green, and PJ Spraggins, just to name a few. Many of these artists are rarely heard on the local broadcast radio stations but should be because they represent the heart and soul of the jazz music culture in Atlanta.  Enter SmoothAtlanta’s call to arms and reason for our existence.

SmoothAtlanta.com began because the local artists of Atlanta, many of which have a large audience following in Atlanta, as well as the Southeast; are not heard regularly on local on-air broadcast radio stations.  SmoothAtlanta.com's primary focus is to broadcast the music of jazz artists, both local and national, who reside in the Atlanta area. These artists are outstanding in their own rights but have little to no on-air broadcast radio presence. In addition to broadcasting the finest jazz music in the Southeast, we also broadcast nationally renowned artists such as Jeff Lorber, Eric Darius, Euge Groove, Joe Sample, Kirk Whalum, etc.

Since SmoothAtlanta’s debut broadcast on February 9, 2007, our growth and notoriety has increased at the speed of sound.  In SmoothAtlanta’s first six months of broadcasting, we increased our listenership from around 1056 in our first month to the current 400,000 (as of July, 2008).  Our listeners include not only a heavy local listener base but stretch to all parts of the globe including North American, South America, Europe, China, Russia, Africa and Australia.  Most of our listeners tune into SmoothAtlanta on a daily basis.

SmoothAtlanta’s other primary focus is to continue to tell the story of jazz.  Jazz is a form of music that originated from local musicians telling their story through music.  Many of those local musicians went on to achieve national and international notoriety such a Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Cannonball Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, and Quincy Jones, just to name a few.  But because the story-tellers are not being heard on the mainstream radio stations, the stories jazz music tells is in danger of going silent.  SmoothAtlanta’s vision is to continue to tell the stories of through its broadcast of the local and national artists.

We invite you to visit us, take a listen and become one of the Smooth listeners. At SmoothAtlanta.com, we know the meaning of "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing," SmoothAtlanta.com is the premiere spot on the Internet to hear the Smooth Sounds of the South!

SmoothAtlanta.com is dedicated to broadcasting 360 programmed hours of the “Smooth Sounds of the South.”  SmoothAtlanta.com features primarily jazz artists living in and around the Atlanta, Georgia area.  SmoothAtlanta.com also features nationally recognized artists, however, the main focus will always be geared towards featuring talented artists in the Atlanta market.
